During your consultation, our doctor will discuss the most appropriate mole removal method for you. We have two main removal methods which are shave removal or excision removal.

Shave removal is ideal for raised moles and takes up to 10 minutes with minimal scarring and little pain. Excision removal is ideal for suspicious moles which is larger or flat moles which not suitable for shaving. We also offer a laser surface which takes 5 minutes and is ideal for small moles, skin tags or blemishes.

Mole removal is often pain-free. Here at the London Dermatology Clinic, your treatment will be performed under local anaesthetic which means you should not experience any pain or sharpness during your mole removal. However, if you do feel pain, let your dermatologist know immediately.

Our procedures for mole removal is very safe and pain-free. Your dermatologist will explain any risks in detail before your procedure and will discuss the most appropriate mole removal method for you.

For a shave removal, there will be minimal scaring but in general, mole removal can leave a scar behind. It will be far less noticeable than the mole but ultimately it depends on how big the mole is and how much skin has been removed.

Checking your moles regularly is important because it is good to be aware of any changes and you can monitor any unusual changes in your skin. We recommend performing a mole check once a month.

In most cases, we are born with our moles which grow larger as we get older. The moles appear darker than the surrounding skin due to the pigment-producing cells which are known as melanocytes. Although it can be rare for new moles to appear after the age of 28, if you do notice a new mole, it is important to have this checked by a dermatologist because there is a chance it could be cancerous.

Yes, moles are very common which are mostly on their bodies or face. Although the majority of people do not have any problems with their moles, it will be worth seeing a dermatologist to get them checked out because they can be cancerous.
