Unlocking the Power of Autologous Holistic Treatment: PRP and PRF Injections

A Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) facial treatment stands out as a holistic cosmetic procedure where platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is injected into the facial area or can be added topically in combination with the dermapen. PRP, derived from patients own blood, harbors growth factors and proteins that foster cellular healing. When introduced into the skin, PRP aids in refining texture and tone, diminishing wrinkles, and stimulating the generation of new collagen.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasm) and PRF (Platelet-rich Fibrin) injections are an autologous holistic treatment where your own blood is doing all the hard work.

Choosing the Right Treatment:

When considering PRP vs. PRF therapy, patients can rest assured knowing that both options offer a holistic approach to skin and hair rejuvenation.

Our experienced Aesthetics Practitioners at London Dermatology Clinic will carefully evaluate each patient's needs and recommend the most suitable treatment based on factors such as the severity of the condition, desired outcomes, and medical history.

PRP and PRF therapies are classified as autologous treatments, meaning they utilise the patient's own blood to stimulate tissue regeneration and promote healing. This holistic approach offers several advantages, including:

  • Safety: By using the patient's own blood components, the risk of adverse reactions or allergic responses is virtually eradicated. Autologous treatments are inherently compatible with the patient's biological makeup, ensuring a safe and effective outcome.
  • Natural Healing: PRP and PRF harness the body's innate healing mechanisms by concentrating and delivering a high dose of growth factors, cytokines, and other bioactive molecules directly to the treatment area. This natural approach promotes tissue repair and rejuvenation without the need for synthetic or foreign substances.
  • Personalised Care: Autologous treatments allow for a customised approach tailored to each patient's unique needs and medical history. By utilising the patient's own blood, our expert dermatologists can design a treatment plan that addresses specific concerns while minimising the risk of complications.

How to prepare for your PRP and PRF Injections

  • Avoid using NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Naproxen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil) for at least 10 days prior to your PRP procedure
  • If you have been prescribed daily aspirin for a heart condition, consult with your prescribing physician for clearance of temporary interruption of medication.
  • Avoid systemic use of corticosteroids within one month prior to your procedure.
  • Avoid these nutritional supplements for one week prior to your procedure: Vitamin E, Flax Oil, Fish Oil, Vitamin A, Curcumin, Turmeric, Aloe, and Astaxanthin.
  • Avoid smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol for one week prior to your procedure.
  • Drink at least four 8 ounce glasses of water the day before your procedure and at least three 8 ounce glasses of water within three hours of your procedure.

Aftercare

After your treatment, refrain from touching, pressing, rubbing, or manipulating the treated area(s) for a minimum of 8 hours. It is crucial to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents such as aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, and Cod Liver for at least 1 week before and 2 weeks after your procedure. These medications can limit or prevent inflammation, potentially compromising your results. If you require Aspirin for cardiac reasons, it is permissible, although it may impact your outcome. Do not swim in open water (lakes, sea) and do not visit a solarium.

What to expect after treatment:

Expect to encounter some possible bruising, redness, tightness of the skin, itching, swelling, and/or soreness for 2-5 days post-procedure, which is normal. Should you experience any discomfort, Paracetamol or other recommended products can be taken as directed.

For the following 2 days, steer clear of saunas, steam rooms, and swimming. Additionally, abstain from vigorous exercise, sun exposure, and excessive heat for at least 2 days post-treatment. Use SPF 50+ every time you go outdoors, even when it’s cloudy or raining.

Lastly, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 3 days post-treatment. Smokers may experience delayed healing and earlier recurrence of problems, potentially prolonging the time required to achieve desired results.

Autologous holistic treatments, such as PRP and PRF therapy, represent a paradigm shift in aesthetic medicine, offering safe, natural, and personalized solutions for skin rejuvenation and hair restoration. By harnessing the body's own healing powers, these innovative therapies provide unparalleled benefits while minimizing the risk of side effects and allergic reactions.
